Property Insurance
The
University is not liable for loss or damage to personal property of students.
Students are urged to secure insurance for such property. Students should check
with their families to determine the extent of coverage, if any, under existing
insurance policies or purchase independent personal property insurance.

Roommates and Room
Changes
Living with a
roommate can be a rewarding experience and may lead to a lasting friendship.
This experience will be enhanced by following a few basic suggestions:
-
Check out the
roommate page
on our Web site
-
Establish some ground
rules and keep communication open
-
Make an honest attempt to
get to know one another
-
Discuss likes and dislikes
openly
-
Share and respect your
roommate’s feelings
In the event of roommate conflicts which appear
beyond discussion, contact your resident assistant or residential
coordinator.
No room changes,
including roommate changes, will be made during the first three weeks of the
semester. After three weeks, room changes may be requested if space is
available.
To make a room
change, residents must first consult the resident assistant and residential
coordinator of the floor and hall they are assigned to. If the residential
coordinator decides there is a legitimate reason for a room change, the
student will be referred to the assistant director of
residence life. The assistant director
will work with the student to coordinate the room change and set completion
dates. The student initiating the room change is responsible for notifying
the current roommate of the room change.
Room Consolidations
and Single Rooms
Except for
rooms specifically built for single occupancy, all assignments are
intended for double
occupancy. Upper-class students and second semester freshmen may obtain private rooms when space permits for an additional
cost.
First semester freshmen are not
eligible for single rooms.
Single rooms are limited in Powell and Schroeder Residence Halls. Single rooms
are not usually available on the first floors of Morton, Brentano or Hale Residence
Halls.
When a student is without a roommate, there are a number
of options:
- Move into another room with a roommate of your choice
- Select another roommate to move into your room
- Accept the placement of a new roommate made by the Office
of Residence Life
- Pay extra to keep your room as a single if space permits
(upper-class students and second semester freshmen)
The Office of
Residence Life reserves the right to assign a new roommate at any time.
Regarding Payment Plans: If you notice that the
cost of your housing is different from any initial payment
plan you have set up, please contact Student Accounts to
make adjustments.
Returning
Student Assignments

fall housing application process for returning students occurs during the
preceding spring semester.
