Securing the Campus - Building Lockdown

Lockdown Procedure for Residents

Residence Halls, North Hall, and Classrooms:

The InformaCast Alert System (IP Phones) will be used to quickly provide segments of the campus community with information regarding an emergency.  Text messages, preceded by an alert tone, will be sent through the IP phone system and displayed on the IP phone screen.

Upon being notified, follow all instructions immediately to secure your safety.

If you have important information, contact 6911 from a campus phone, or 471-6911 from a cell phone.  Use this number sparingly as there may be several calls coming in during an emergency.  In an extreme emergency 911 can be called if essential information needs to be shared and lines are busy.

If shots are fired, or if someone is firing a weapon on or near campus:

  • Take cover immediately using all available concealments.

  • Do nothing to attract the perpetrator’s attention to you.

  • Carefully observe as much about the perpetrator and surroundings as possible.

  • When the firing stops or when you feel that it may be safe to move, call campus Security at 6911 from a campus phone, or 471-6911 from a cell phone.

It is important to follow all instructions from campus staff immediately.

Village Apartments, Houses, Duplexes and Fraternities:

The residents of Village Apartments, Houses, Duplexes and Fraternities will be notified by email and a phone tree system regarding a campus emergency involving a lockdown.

Upon being notified, follow all instructions listed above for Residential students.
