Emergency Procedures - Earthquake

 Earthquake

During an Earthquake

Inside your room: Move away from your window towards your door, drop on your knees with your back to the windows; fold your arms on floor close to your knees, bury face in arms and close your eyes. If time allows, pull mattress over your head for further protection.

Outside your room: Take one of the following actions:

  1. Drop on your knees, bury face in arms, and close your eyes. If notebooks or jackets are handy, hold over your head for added protection.

  2. If in an area where there are desks or tables, get under them. With your back to the windows, fold your arms on the floor close to your knees, bury your face in your arms, and close your eyes.

Stay clear of windows, bookcases, refrigerators, light fixtures, lofts, or other heavy objects which might slide or fall.

After a Significant* Earthquake

After the initial shock and things have settled down, evacuate the building and move to McCutchan Stadium soccer field for all residence halls. If you live in the Villages, proceed to either McCutchan Stadium soccer field or the front oval, whichever is closest.

Please find one of your hall's RAs so they know you have evacuated safely. Remain at the assembly point until you have been given instructions by residential housing staff or University emergency personnel. Do not reenter your building until you have been authorized to do so by University emergency personnel.

*A significant earthquake is of a nature where property damage or personal injury may be sustained.  When in doubt, calmly and cautiously exit the building and head to the designated assembly points.  If communication is available, TextCaster will be used to provide timely updates.
